RIM Looks to Avoid India BlackBerry Ban

Earlier this month, India's Ministry of Home Affairs demanded that RIM allow Indian law enforcement access to Blackberry Enterprise Service and Blackberry Messenger Service data by Aug. 31, or officials would block BlackBerry services in the country.

Indian officials say they need to be able to intercept BlackBerry messages in cases where they suspect the devices are being used to plot terror attacks or other crimes. RIM, for its part, insists that encryption is in its users' hands and that it does not have technology that would allow third-parties to monitor BlackBerry traffic.

"In order to provide corporate customers with the necessary confidence that the transmission of their valuable and confidential data is completely secure, the BlackBerry security architecture for enterprise customers was purposely designed to exclude the capability for RIM or any third party to read encrypted information," RIM said. "RIM would simply be unable to accommodate any request for a copy of a customer's encryption key since at no time does RIM, ever possess a copy of the key."

The BlackBerry smartphone maker has about 1.1 million users in India out of a total subscription base of 46 million worldwide, said Mike Abramsky, an analyst at RBC Capital Markets in Toronto.

RIM Launches 3G Smartphone(BlackBerry Pearl 9100/9105) In India

Research In Motion (RIM) the makers of BlackBerry smartphones today announced the launch of new BlackBerry Pearl 3G, the smallest BlackBerry smartphone yet, in India Mumbai on June 10, 2010.

The new BlackBerry Pearl 3G smartphone will be available in two models in India: the BlackBerry Pearl 9100 and the BlackBerry Pearl 9105.The BlackBerry Pearl 9100 sports a 20-key condensed QWERTY keyboard, while the BlackBerry Pearl 9105 features a 14-key conventional keyboard.

RIM BlackBerry Cobalt/BlackPad Tablet Device To Arrive In 2011?

RIM is also planning to launch flat plane, and naming BlackPad or Cobalt.

The tablet is still thought to be officially unveiled sometime in 2011. It would sport both a 3G connection and Wi-Fi and may sync with a BlackBerry smartphone.

Word on the street has Research In Motion (NSDQ: RIMM) tapping Hon Hai, the famous iPhone component integrators, to assemble the BlackBerry tablet.

If such a device were to become a reality, it’s expected to be unveiled sometime in 2011, sporting a 3G connection, Wi-Fi, and possibly sync with a BlackBerry smartphone.

We’re told to look for an announcement of the BlackPad (Cobalt) sometime in 2011 – likely during the WES 2011 conference. But, again, as these types of rumors go, don’t bet the farm on seeing a BlackBerry tablet launching next year.
